Built on Mr. Bernie's legacy
Every business has a beginning. Ours began with our Dad, Arturo SR, a supply store named M.L. Bernie, and a man named Marshall Leon Bernie. In the 1980s, Mr. Bernie gave Arturo an opportunity and took a chance on a young man who was eager to work. Mr. Bernie saw potential in Arturo and taught him far more than just selling supplies. He taught him the value of hard work, honesty, and responsibility. Mr. Bernie didn’t just give him a job—he became his mentor.
As years passed, Mr. Bernie and Arturo’s relationship grew beyond the workplace. Their families grew alongside them over time. Their bond was strengthened by the love they shared for their families and their commitment to building a better future for the people they cared about. Sadly, after many years of friendship, mentorship, and shared memories, Marshall Leon Bernie passed away. His loss was deeply felt. Mr. Bernie’s passing marked the end of one chapter, but not the end of his legacy.
After Mr. Bernie, his son-in-law, Mike Borio, continued running the business for quite some time. Mike and our dad, Arturo, worked to preserve what Mr. Bernie had built. During that time, Mike and Arturo developed a close relationship built on trust, respect, and commitment to the business. Their partnership helped the business grow while preserving the values that had always been at its heart. Sadly, Mike passed away. His loss was another painful moment for both families and for the business they had worked so hard to maintain.
Even through these difficult losses, the foundation Mr. Bernie created continued to live on through his daughters and people he mentored. It’s a story that means a lot to our family because it represents more than a business. It represents an opportunity, a mentor, two growing families, lasting friendships, loss, and perseverance.
For more than 45 years, Arturo dedicated himself to the company, beginning as an employee—learning every part of the business from the ground up to now running M.L. Bernie as CEO.
Although Mr. Bernie and Mike are no longer with us, their impact remains part of who we are. Their memory continues to inspire us, and the lessons they left behind remain woven into the way we work, serve our customers, and care for one another.
Now, decades later, Arturo gets to see his children carry the same work ethic and values forward. Together, they hope to carry on Mr. Bernie’s legacy. The goal is to preserve the values Mr. Bernie passed down to Arturo and continue building a business rooted in family, hard work, trust, and service for generations to come.
